… in the beginning:
After a combined 20 years in the hospitality and catering industry Darragh Birkett and Martin Ansbro had a mission to offer the freshest, most delicious sandwiches and great fast service to busy Dubliners.
To find out what the public were looking for Honest to Goodness opened its first outlet in Dun Laoghaire, 2003. This small take away service was used to research the market and develop new ideas.
Emerging in 2005 in the Market Arcade, South Great Georges Street, Dublin 2 was the culmination of 2 years hard development of an all day Café-Bakery that offers breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea menus featuring the Honest house bread and full of creative, cravable food and beverages. All aspects of the menu are made, baked or roasted in front of customers through out the day in store.
The Honest menu features a full breakfast selection all serviced with warm house bread, a selection of Honest sandwiches and paninis consisting of the freshest meats, cheeses, seasonal vegetables, adding in delicious store made sauces and spreads, salads tossed to order, store made fat free soups and more substantial oven baked sandwiches which change daily. Unwind in the afternoon with a wide range of organic – fair trade teas and coffees with a delectable Honest brownies or one of the ever changing desserts of the day.
The featured Honest house breads come in an endless number of type – Plain, Tomato and Basil, Wholemeal, Black Olive, Cheese and Onion, Tomato and Fennell or spice up lunch with some Chilli bread which is made and baked in store throughout the day.
…food philosophy
‘At Honest we’re very clear about food – with a few totally natural ingredients & without preservatives we can make bread that is simply delicious – and baked right here all day.
We want to give you good food that tastes great in a place you can enjoy.
We want you to leave Honest feeling well fed and happy, this means being generous not just in portions but in the way we treat people.
Honest to Goodness has a unique design with its lofty and narrow wooden panelled space, reminiscent of a Dutch merchant’s house, has been made a visual delight with an over scaled steel mobile made of orange plastic buckets and wooden spoons. The banquette seating has a rhythmical verticality with a high-banded back in contrasting shades of tangerine, mocha, slate and glossy black. Alicante Rose marble top tables and metallic striated Formica service counter completes the interior.
